Abstract

A new long chain aliphatic compounds- triacont-3, 17-diene 1, 25-methyl-dotriacont-6, 20-diene- 17-one 2, undecylhexadecanoate 3 and two known compounds- stigmasterol 4, and β-sitosterol 5 have been isolated from the acetone extract of the stem bark Butea monosperma. The structures of these compounds have been elucidated by a combination of spectral methods (IR, MS, 1H, and 13C NMR). The plant showed antioxidant, antidiarrhoeal, dermal, wound healing, antidiabetic, antistress, anticonvulsive, antihepatotoxic, antiestrogenic and antihelmintic activities. Many of them are used in industry for various applications like perfumes, flavors, deodorants, antiseptic and pharmaceuticals. The aim of the present study was to analyze three new long chain aliphatic compounds from the acetone extract of the stem bark of B. monosperma.
